ABOUT US

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to announce the year of God’s favor.”
(Lk 4:18-19)

Our Context

In all spheres of our society, our country today is mired in deep crises.

To begin with, the economic and political structures that are in place and the policies at work are not for the interest nor the welfare of our people. Our socio-cultural and moral fibers are crumbling away due to greed, indifference, carelessness, and injustices in all forms. We do witness and experience first-hand the sufferings of our people – extreme poverty and lack of opportunity, continuing human rights violations, ecological destruction, political dynasty, and elite rule, corruption at all levels, swelling foreign debts, and the proliferation of lies and disinformation campaigns – to name a few.

This is not the will of God!

God is a God of justice and peace, truth and love, compassion and mercy. God reveals Himself as One who is ever with the poor and always sides with the poor. We therefore, cannot but speak and here, we begin by calling those who, like us, are in the ministry of serving our people as priests of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Reality: A Call to Action

We cannot be silent, and we refuse to be silenced when our brothers and sisters suffer and we see our society come down and fall apart.

OUR MANDATE

We are members of the Filipino Clergy who have vowed to love and serve God and His people.

By virtue of our baptism and presbyteral ordination, we have committed ourselves to carry out the mission of our Lord Jesus Christ in the world, to build His kingdom here and now. Following Him, we find ourselves commanded and empowered to “bring the good news to the poor and announce the year of God’s favour” (Lk 4:18,19).

As a Synodal Church, we have walked together and have accompanied our brothers and sisters in and through the varied pastoral ministries we are in. We hear their cries and empathize with their struggles; we witness and share their hopes. We know and are aware that we are with our fellow Filipino citizens who long for a just, peaceful, and humane Philippine society.

We cannot be silent, and we refuse to be silenced when our brothers and sisters suffer and we see our society come down and fall apart. We are one with our bruised and wounded people who nonetheless put their hope and trust in the Lord, for “hope does not disappoint” (Romans 5:5). We are emboldened by the Spirit who came down on Pentecost and empowered the disciples to preach the good news of salvation to all corners of the world. Here is where we find our mandate and our marching order.

OUR DECLARATION

We believe that God has called us to be stewards, prophets and pastors of the Church - the people of God. We stand for what is right, for what is true, and for what promotes the common good. Impelled by the love of Christ (2Cor 5:14) and the Church’s preferential option for the poor (PCP II), we hereby unite ourselves and organize the CLERGY FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE (CGG).
