In Memoriam
Papa Francesco

Thirteen Minutes of tolling of bells in remembrance of Pope Francis’ thirteen years of Petrine Ministry.

Dear brothers and sisters, let us therefore allow our tears of sorrow to be transformed into tears of joy. Pope Francis has died with the Lord and now he lives on with the Lord as part of the risen body of the Lord. And he’s inviting us to allow the risen Lord to keep drawing near to us, to walk with us, to join our conversations and to break bread with us and disappear. But I tell you, he disappears only so that he can reappear in you, in us, in his body, the church.

Instructions for priests:

Let us please offer Masses in our communities for the eternal repose of the soul of the Holy Father, Pope Francis. During our Masses this Easter octave, we will use the prayers and readings of Easter. Kindly add an intention in the Prayer of the Faithful for the Pope. Kindly note the following in the Eucharistic Prayer:

Remember, Lord, your Church,
spread throughout the world,
and bring her to the fullness of charity,
together with ____, our Bishop
and all the clergy.

Remember your servant, Pope FRANCIS,
whom you have called
from this world to yourself.
Grant that he who was united with your Son in a death like his,
may also be one with him in his Resurrection.

The Catholic faithful are also encouraged to light a candle for Pope Francis and say the following prayer for his eternal repose:

O God of mercy and compassion, we entrust to You our beloved Holy Father, Pope Francis, whom You have called from this life to Yourself. Grateful for his tireless witness to the Gospel, his courage in proclaiming mercy, and his love for the poor and the earth, we now commend his soul to Your eternal embrace. Grant him the reward of faithful service: the joy of seeing You face to face.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

May he rest in peace. Amen.

“I prefer a Church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets, rather than a Church which is unhealthy from being confined and from clinging to its own security. I do not want a Church concerned with being at the centre and which then ends by being caught up in a web of obsessions and procedures. If something should rightly disturb us and trouble our consciences, it is the fact that so many of our brothers and sisters are living without the strength, light and consolation born of friendship with Jesus Christ, without a community of faith to support them, without meaning and a goal in life.” (Evangelii Gauidium) – Pope Francis

His Eminence Jose F. Cardinal Advincula would like to invite all priests, consecrated persons and the lay faithful of the Archdiocese of Manila to a Eucharistic celebration where he will lead the Archdiocese in praying for the eternal repose of the soul of Pope Francis. The Mass will be tomorrow, 22 April 2025, Easter Tuesday, 9:00 am, at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (Manila Cathedral).
